Match Preview: Orange County vs Burud Town

The game of the week features two unbeaten clubs. The Zodiac have won the clubs first 3 matches in the BSL fairly easily. The Stags will be without Arrieta this week, but with the exception of week 3, has shown a diverse offense. Burud Town will also be debuting the clubs new kit this week.

Match Preview: Capital District vs Second City

The Gunners are off to a good start obtaining 5 points in the standings after 3 matches, but will be without some key players this week thanks to World Cup qualifiers. The Stars will also be missing some players, but not as many. Second City lost the clubs first match last week, but not without a valiant fight. This should be a good match.

Match Preview: Alliance vs Gateway United

This is the first leg of the 2013 Barium Cup. So far this rivalry has been one-sided with Gateway United winning all 4 matches. The Saints have been busy since winning their first game of the season last week.  The club just completed a trade obtaining Higuain and before that obtained Jack McInnerney off waivers. The Lions are sitting in last place at the moment and have signed a couple of free agents to help bolster an offense that was shut out last week.

Match Preview: Spartans vs Alamo City

The Spartans suffered their first loss of the season in week 3, but have a great opportunity to get back in the top 4 of the BSL standings if the club can defeat Alamo City this week. The last time these two clubs faced off, the Spartans slaughtered the Battle 9-2!

Match Preview: Rose City vs Union SoCal

The Flyers swept the season series in 2012 against the Blues. Union SC had a rough third week with a tough loss and an injury and is looking to rebound.

Match Preview: Pennsylvania vs Gold Coast

The Suns continue to make lots of roster moves searching for the first win of the season. The club has changed 8 players in 2 weeks including a recent trade obtaining 3 new players for this match. On the flip side, the Stoners are win-less in 3 matches as well, but are choosing to remain loyal to their roster of players.

Rose City 4 Second City 3

The busy week for the Flyers paid off as the defending champions new addition Patrice Bernier lived up to his mid week drama as he scored a goal and assist for his new club. Also contributing was DiVaio and MacMath giving Rose City its best offensive outing of the season. The game got interesting as Second City refused to go quietly. After trailing 4-0, the Stars started a comeback and pulled to within 1 after Brad Davis' goal. It was nervous time for the remainder of the match including Mike Magee hitting the post that could have tied the game. Both clubs had a substitute enter into the match, but neither scored.

Steve Zakuani's beautiful assist on Saturday night that equalized the score 1-1 for Union SC brought the clubs supporters to a huge level of excitement. But, those cheers were silenced when Bapiste's late assist pulled the Battle ahead again. Alamo City would add a few more scored before the final whistle, but the writing was on the wall by the conclusion of Saturday's action sending the Blues to another defeat at the expense of Battle. The victory improved Alamo City to a perfect 3-0-0 on the year and gives the club the first win in the Founders Cup tally as well.

Match Preview: Alamo City vs Union SoCal

The Blues and Battle kick off the first entry in the Founders Cup this weekend. If Union SC wants to claim hardware this season the priority needs to be to end the jinx. The Battle have owned this match-up.  Players have come and gone, but the results have been the same with the Blues winning only once in 11 meetings. It will not be easy this weekend either with Alamo City currently 2-0-0. One blessing is the club will be without Patrice Bernier after releasing him in the most expensive transfer fee in BSL history.

Match Preview: Orange County vs Pennsylvania

Could the season have started any better for the Zodiac? In the clubs first 2 matches in the league its done everything right. The offense has scored 11 times in those 2 games. The roster is getting production from forwards, midfielders, defenders, and the goal keeper. The rest of the league is looking up at the first place Zodiac. This weekend, the Stoners get a shot at trying to knock this new club down a peg as the Partnership looks to get in the win column.

Match Preview: Capital District vs Spartans 1612

The first leg of the 2013 Empire Cup is also the BSL game of the week. The Spartans have not trailed in a match yet and have built very early leads in both matches. Its players have thrived in the afternoon results and been quiet in the nightcaps. The Gunners may not have a win yet, but are averaging 4 points a game, which is better than the Spartans, and is the polar opposite of its New York rival, scoring better in night results. This could be the highest scoring match of the week.

Match Preview: Burud Town vs Alliance

The Stags first 2 matches of the season have shown a diverse offense. Can the club keep it up in week 3 against Alliance FC? This will be the first match the Lions will have DeRosario available. It has to be a big welcome to a club that is 0-2-0 and averaging less than 2 points per game.

Match Preview: Gold Coast vs Gateway United

The Suns have made bold moves since the club last took the field signing several defenders. Its an obvious attempt to jump start the unfortunate player departures that the club encountered at the start of the season. Gateway United is in a similar boat, having started slow as well and has made a few roster moves as well, but choosing to find untapped midfielders and forwards. It should be an intense match between two established clubs looks to get their first win.

Match Preview: Rose City vs Second City

The Flyers have scored once in each of the first 2 matches putting the club at the bottom of the league in offense. The club is waiting patiently while the roster gets healthy and now has to face a Stars squad entering undefeated and averaging 3.5 points in the first 2 games.

Obafemi Martins is in High Demand

CLUBS INVOLVED (12):
Gold Coast, Gateway United, Union SC, Burud Town,
Alamo City, Spartans 1612, Second City, Alliance,
Orange County, CD Gunners, Pennsylvania, Rose City.

For the first time in league history, all 12 teams will be involved in a bidding war. It could have something to do with all the rumors that have circulated regarding Martins. He was a discussion before the BSL draft, then a discussion during the draft, and now up for bidding before week 3, which is the earliest bidding in league history as well. As customary this early in the season, only 2012 player stats will be what counts for bidding value. Also no goal keepers may be used in this bidding war. To accommodate the number of clubs involved, the deadline for Martins has been set for Wednesday 3/13 at 5pm (PDT). Any comments placed on this post after 5pm will not count.

Match Preview: Gold Coast vs Alamo City

A week after Frings announced his retirement, Gold Coast got news of Christian Tiffert leaving the club as well. Needless to say, it has not be raining good news so far in terms of personnel for the Suns. While its hard to replace such plaers on short notice, the club recently added Ricardo Clark to the roster. Alamo City enters the match looking to score a more decisive win than the 2-1 victory the club had in week 1. The Battle are debuting the clubs new 2013 primary kit this week.

Match Preview: Union SoCal vs Alliance

Both Union SC and Alliance finished last week shaking their heads in frustration and now both clubs face off trying to right the ship. Neither club wants to start the year off 0-2 so this match should be intense.
