Match Preview l Week 7

The Spartans take a break from being the match of the week after being a feature match focus for 3 straight weeks, but that doesn't mean the schedule will get any easier in week 7. Up next the Spartans must face the 2nd ranked Saints who have won 3 straight games in convincing fashion. Can Gateway United end the New York club's undefeated run, or will the Spartans extend their league record start to a season? In 4 previous meeting these two clubs have tied each 3 times.

Match Preview l Week 7

The week 7 match of the week features two clubs with a combined 119 regular season wins, a combined 17 Majors Cup wins, a combined 8 major trophies, and a combined 14 minor trophies. The BSL Classic derby has historically gone the way of the Gunners, but Alamo City finally took it last season. Currently both clubs are in good positions in the table. The Gunners are unbeaten in 3 matches, while the Battle have lost 2 straight.

Match Preview l Week 7

Burud Town looked really good in its 5-3 win over Pennsylvania last week. Can the Stags have a repeat performance? Standing in the way will be resurgent Stars lineup who have been a completely different looking side the last 3 weeks. Burud Town is sitting 1 point out of the top 5 in the table heading into this week, but will need to find a way to take down a Second City club that has never lost to the Stags in 6 previous meetings.

Match Preview l Week 7

Orange County will look to get its offense back on the right track and put last weeks shutout in the past. The Zodiac have a lot of clubs breathing down their neck for that 5th place spot so points are always at a premium. The Suns also struggled to score last week and could use a strong result to build up some positive momentum. Last year Gold Coast lost both matches against the OC.

Match Preview l Week 7

A couple of 2-4-0 clubs going in opposite directions meet up this week. The Union have won 2 in a row, while the Stoners have lost 3 straight. Based on each clubs current form, this could be a very competitive match and might result in several lead changes.

Match Preview l Week 7

The Flyers dropped down to 11th place after losing to the Gunners last week, but have a great opportunity to move back up the standings facing Ohio this week. Rose City will have Collin back for this match.

Match Recap l Week 6

After a horrid first 4 games, the Union have awoke. Week 6 was rivalry weekend for the club and the first leg of the California Cup saw SoCal get a goal from Buddle assisted by Dillon Powers and early in the match the U had a 2-0 lead. Maurice Edu added to the lead and match captain Chris Wondolowski put in #4 for the match. The Suns, left their offense in Sacramento, as the only counter came from Barrera. The first leg goes to the Union with a 3 point cushion heading into the 2nd leg.

Match Recap l Week 6

As mentioned in the match preview, blowouts are nothing new when these two clubs meet each other. This time, it was the Saints that scored first and never let the foot off the gas. Six different players scored for the Gateway United who has now scored 17 points in its last 3 matches to defeat Alamo City and take over 2nd place in the BSL. The Battle suffered the clubs 2nd straight loss. That is not the headline since this was going to be a tough part of the schedule for the club. But, the shutout is. This after all was the league's #1 offense and in 2014 the lowest scoring result leading up to this game was 3 points on week 3. Do you want to know the last time Alamo City was shut out? Not 2013, not 2012, you have to go back all the way to 2011 when the Battle lost to.... you guessed it, Gateway United by a 5-0 score in week 18 of that year.

Match Recap l Week 6

A week after being shutout against the Gold Coast, the Burud Town offense rebounded nicely to defeat the Stoners and bring the Champions record back to an even mark. A nice balance of 5 players made the scoresheet including a clean sheet from Bobby Shuttleworth. Will Johnson's goal was the game winner. The Stoners don't seem to have much luck without DeFoe in the line-up. The club has been getting goals Keane and Erick Torres, but once again came up short at the final whistle.  Will Bruin has been quiet since his fast start too.

Match Recap l Week 6

The Gunners used scores from recent free agent signings to help the club earn a 4th victory on the season and become the first BSL club to win 60 regular season matches all-time. The Flyers were very much in this match, but could not find the equalizer when it counted. Also a 2nd yellow card allow Serna to enter off the bench and score some insurance for the District.

Match Recap l Week 6

The Spartans got little resistence from the OC in the week 6 match of the week and improved to a perfect 6-0-0 in the season. Clearly its the best start in the Spartans 3 year history and its now the best start in BSL history. The next on the list would be to see if the Spartans can take down the old St. Louis Cure record of 10 matches unbeaten to start a season. For the Zodiac, its the first time the club has been shutout ending a run of 29 straight matches with at least a point.

Match Recap l Week 6

The Stars took care of business getting an early score from Teal Bunbury and then coasted the rest of the way through to win the club's 2nd game in a row. The win is another match where the club has scored 3 points offensively after struggling in the first 3 weeks of the season.

Match Preview l Week 6

The leagues sole undefeated club gets a new challenge. The Spartans now face off against the 3-1-1 Zodiac in the week 6 match of the week. The last time these two clubs met was in the playoffs semi-finals. The match went into extra-time with the Zodiac advancing to the 2013 BSL Final. The Spartans have had 2 straight matches where the club has gotten a hat trick from a player. Zusi had 3 scores in week 4 and Dempsey had 3 scores in week 5. The Zodiac have been getting great production from Josh Williams again. The defender was a dream last season for the club and is doing it again in 2014.

Match Preview l Week 6

Its the first leg of the California Cup.  The Gold Coast won it last year and the Union want it back. So far neither club has had the starts they expected. The Union got a win last week and did score 5 points in the process, but since it was against Ohio it might not have gotten noticed by the league. The Suns also won last week, but have really been plagued by an inconsistent roster so far.  It's a rivalry game, so regardless of records, the war will be on.

Match Preview l Week 6

Its took 7 points to defeat the Battle, but that is exactly what happened to end the clubs 8 game winning streak dating back to last season (League record). Now, Alamo City will have to contend with another top ranked BSL club in Gateway United. The Saints have scored 11 points in the last 2 matches and are ranked 3rd in the league at the moment. This match also has Founders Cup implications. In 13 previous meetings these two have never tied each other. Also several of those matches have been blowouts by both clubs, so expect anything this weekend.

Match Preview l Week 6

Both clubs are looking to get back on the right track. The Stoners have been playing well, but have just been coming up short against their opponents. Last week Pennsylvania released Diego Chara just before he had possibly the game of his life by scoring 2 goals. Tough break! The Stags were shut out last weekend. How will the defending champions rebound?

Match Preview l Week 6

The Gunners will try again to win the clubs 60th regular season match all-time. Last week the club had to settle for a tie, but have to be happy with 10 points in the standings after 5 matches completed. Meanwhile, the Flyers had the clubs wings clipped a bit with a 2 game winning streak now over. Still, Rose City can get back to a level record with a win this weekend.

Match Preview l Week 6

Second City can use this week as a chance to gain even more momentum. The club is coming off its first win of the season and the week before also had a decent showing. The Stars are a club to keep an eye on.

Match Recap l Week 5

This match of the week between two undefeated 4-0-0 clubs did not disappoint. The scoring came fast and furious as the Spartans got 3 goals early from match captain Clint Dempsey. But, Alamo City countered with 2 assists from Obafemi Martins. That was just the beginning of the weekend, then Felipe Martins came in with a goal and assist for the Spartans, but the Battle kept fighting back including 2 assists from Mauro Diaz. In total each club had 4 players score, and the Spartans left 3 more points on the bench.  If this is a possible playoff preview in 2014, then we are due for some great drama. Round 1 goes to the Spartans who take over 1st place in the BSL.

Match Recap l Week 5

The Stoners and Saints went blow by blow against each other this weekend in a back and forth duel. Michael Bradley scored first, but Cesar equalized and gave Pennsylvania the lead with his clean sheet and 5 saves. Espindola equalized for the Saints and Amarikwa gave the lead back to Gateway United at 3-2. Then on Sunday Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane each poured in 2 scores for each club to maintain Gateway's advantage closing the match at 5-4. For the 2nd week in a row, Amarikwa proved to be the difference for the Saints.

Match Recap l Week 5

Two clubs entering this weekend in the top 5 of the league squared away in what became more about what happened off the field than on the field. In the match neither club could break away and the game settled as a 2-2 tie. Meanewhile both owners expressed interest in the same players (Ishizaki and Mari) over the weekend. The Zodiac won the rights to Mari and the Gunners won the right to Ishizaki.

Match Recap l Week 5

The Union finally showed what its potential can be easily defeating Ohio to grab the first win of 2014 for the club. Four players contributed to 5 goals in the match improving SoCal's PPG as well.

Match Recap l Week 5

The Gold Coast got the clubs first win since opening week and improved to 2-3-0 on the season after defeating Burud Town with scores from Kenny Miller and Ricardo Clark.

Match Preview l Week 5

The Stoners will have to prove it can win without Jermaine DeFoe's goals this week going up against a Saints club that had its best match of 2014 last week. Pennsylvania has other weapons with the likes of some big name veterans, just like the Saints do. Infact, these clubs mirror each other a lot in terms of player personnel signings.

Match Preview l Week 5

This match has all the making to be a feature match except it just happened to come the same time as the ACB/SPA match. Still, this match-up features the current #3 ranked club versus the #4 ranked club. Both the Gunners and Zodiac are 3-1-0 and the winner might move up to #2 when its all done. The Zodiac are currently in better form, but that also means the Gunners might be ready to erupt.

Match Preview l Week 5

The last two perfect clubs go head to head in this match of the week. The Spartans could be considered the underdogs in this one. The reason the club is ranked 2nd in the league is a clear 2.0 difference in PPG compared to the Battle. Regardless, both clubs have shown they can win. Even before this season, these two clubs were the only set to qualify for both the playoffs and Majors Cup. While, they did not meet up in the playoffs, and ultimately lost their semi-final games, these two clubs did meet up in week 2 of the group stage for the Majors Cup where Alamo City spanked the Spartans to a 9-0 drubbing on route to a 2nd straight Majors Cup Championship. Who will go 5-0-0?

Match Preview l Week 5

The Stags have looked the stronger of the two clubs coming into this weeks showdown against the Gold Coast. While Burud Town has shown a pretty good level of consistency, the Suns have not and therefore have suffered in the standings for it.

Match Preview l Week 5

The Flyers will try and make it 3 wins in a row when it goes up against a Stars club that showed significant improvement last week. Second City is still searching for the clubs 1st win of 2014. Can it come against a Flyers side that is 4-0-0 all-time against the Stars?

Match Preview l Week 5

This week Union SC will get a chance to break its horrid start thanks to the absentee Ohio club. At 0-4-0, the U need points anyway the club can get them. So barring a complete meltdown on offense, a win seems very plausible.
