Recap: Week 4

Expansion Sides Putting Any Doubts to Rest
Cumberland Athletic's latest win just might put any doubt the expansion club is for real to rest. The Wildmary's romped the Stars 7-0 to stay undefeated after 4 weeks. Staying close is Union Southern California who broke a club record for best start to a season. The Southlanders are unbeaten with 3 wins and a tie. The other unbeaten club heading into this weekend, Gold Coast, did not fair as well. The Suns offense struggled with National Team call-up's and was shut out in a 4-0 defeat to Burud Town. Not to be outdone by the Wildmary's success out of the gates, SC Canada defeated the BSL Champions to improve to an impressive 3-1-0 record and is now in third place in the league. The Spartans are struggling in their title defense with now 3 losses in 4 matches. In other action, Federico Higuain's red card cost Gateway United 2 points this weekend, as Robert Earnshaw's late goal was allowed to count off the bench for Alamo City ending the match in a 2-2 tie. Finally, the Flyers earned their first point in the BSL standings, coming from behind to score twice on Sunday to tie the Gunners 2-2 in their match.

Kelyn Rowe Scores Five Himself
Burud Town claimed first place in Group A of the MCQ after an impressive win over the Gunners this weekend. Giovinco earned his paycheck with 3 scores for the Stags. However, the real big shot in the first qualifiers was Kelyn Rowe who scored 5 times for SC Canada to help the club earn a decisive victory over the Spartans.  Gateway United's 7-2 win over Second City gave the Saints 2nd place in Group A for now. Union SC also had a great result thanks to 3 scores from Chris Wondolowski to take first place in Group B. Cumberland Athletic's 2 points from Bill Hamid helped the club take 2nd place in Group B. Flyers Title Defense Begins With Union Again
The first qualifiers for the 2015 Majors Cup will take place this weekend. Its still early in the BSL regular season, so all clubs still have hope in the league table, but a positive result in this match could boost the moral for all those BSL clubs sitting below the playoff line, even if it is just by a mear 3 points in the league standings. Defending Majors Cup Champion - Rose City by pure coincidence of 2014 club rankings, will get another shot at Union SC in the tournaments 2014 Championship Game rematch. These two clubs just played each other last week in a league match with the Southlanders winning 3-1.  The Flyers are 0-3-0 in the BSL at the moment, but its a fresh start for the MCQ. Meanwhile, 2-time Majors Cup Champions - Alamo City will open up their campaign against the upstart Cumberland Athletic.

Preview: Week 4

Unbeaten Clubs Look to Extend Streaks
The first place Wildmary's will have the clubs perfect record challenged against Second City this weekend. The Stars 1-2-0 record is a bit misleading. The club has put up decent numbers in its first few league matches. A win against Cumberland would surely right the ship real fast for the Stars.  Next, the game of the week features Union SC vs Orange County. The Southlanders have equaled the clubs best start in club history and with a win could make a club best mark (Union SC started 2-0-2 in first 4 matches in 2009).  In the way are the Zodiac looking to win a third match in a row. Meanwhile, Gold Coast is also enjoying a strong start to the season and will face Burud Town next. SC Canada will take its 2-1-0 record against the BSL Champions this week. Rose City will look for the clubs first points against Capital District and finally Alamo City will play Gateway United with early Founders Cup bragging rights at stack.

Recap: Week 3

Scoring Lacks Finish Throughout the League
So far in 2 of the 3 weeks of the 2015 season, scoring is down in the BSL. This weekends top offense was Orange County with 4 scores. One such club taking full advantage of this trend so far is Cumberland Athletic, who scored another 3 points on route to a perfect 3-0-0 start to the season. Meanwhile, Union So.Cal and Gold Coast also kept pace with the standings leaders with wins of their own and both clubs remain unbeaten in the first 3 matches with 2-0-1 records. Union SC once again led the league in disciplines with another 4 cards issued. In the first leg of the BSL classic, Alamo City got a rare victory over their rivals in a forgettable 2-0 win. The victory was a big one for the Battle who got the clubs first win on the young season and can claim to be the first club to win 70 games all-time. The Zodiac made easy work of the BSL champions for a 2nd straight win. SC Canada improved to 2-1-0 on the season after overcoming a 2-1 deficit with 2 late scores from Bradley Wright-Phillips to defeat Gateway United.

The Classic and Finals Rematches Are On Tap
There will be plenty of big matches in the BSL this weekend! First we get started with a rematch of last years BSL Cup Final with the Spartans versus Zodiac. Both clubs are 1-1-0 on the young season. Next, we have a rematch of last years Majors Cup Final with the Southlanders versus Flyers. The clubs met a league record 4 times in 2014 (twice in the BSL regular season and twice in the Majors Cup) and the Flyers won all 4 matches! Union SC is leading the BSL with a 5.0 PPG after 2 weeks. Next, the BSL Classic derby will play the first leg of 2015 with the Gunners vs Battle. Capital District is coming off an impressive 5-3 win and has only lost to the Battle twice in 15 past meetings (but one of them was the 09 BSL Cup), while Alamo City could use this match to jumpstart the season as the club sits in 12th place for the first time in club history.  The first place Wildmarys will look to stay perfect this weekend against the 1-1-0 Stags, who have the same scoring average as Cumberland. Also this weekend two clubs looking pretty solid early on the year in Gold Coast and Second City will play. The Suns are unbeaten in their first 2 games with a 1-0-1 record. Finally, Gateway United and SC Canada will meet up this weekend with both clubs sitting with 1-1-0 records.

Wildmarys Own First Place in BSL!
Cumberland AC took early bragging rights from expansion counterpart SC Canada over the weekend to improve to 2-0-0 for first place in the league standings and is officially the only BSL club to be perfect after 2 weeks in the season. Expansion Bragging Rights
With both expansion clubs winning their openers, this weeks match-up putting SC Canada and Cumberland Athletic against each other gives one of these clubs a great chance to go 2-0-0 on the season. Meanwhile, the match featuring the Flyers and Zodiac puts both sides in a fight to avoid going 0-2-0 on the early season after their week 1 losses. The other three of last years playoff clubs, Alamo City, Capital District, and Gateway United, will look to rebound from first kick defeats as well.

Recap: Week 1

The scoring started off slow to open the new season until around Sunday. Cumberland Athletic got off to the best start of the bunch building a quick 2-0 lead on Friday over Alamo City and adding a third score on Saturday. That would be enough to grab the Wildmary's their first BSL win as the club held on for a 3-2 final against the Battle. In the California Cup, the Suns and Southlanders exchanged body blows all weekend long. Rivero got an early goal for the Union, but then Gold Coast jumped ahead with 2 goals from Jozy Altidore. Kaka would equalize for Union SC, but Benny Feilhaber would put the Suns up again late before Marco Pappa would equalize again in the closing minutes of the match. Expansion side SC Canada lived dangerously in week 1. Their opponent Zodiac wasted several chances from Zardes and Dwyer and in turn saw the club score just 1 Diskerud goal on the week. SC Canada got 6 saves from Joe Bendik for the game winner. Second City got an opening week win over the Gunners thanks to a Blas Perez game winning goal. Burud Town got 2 scores from goal keeper Deric to defeat Gateway United 4-1 to open the Stags season. The Spartans overcame a 3-1 deficit against the Flyers on Sunday when Felipe Martins and Clint Dempsey tallied 4 scores to give the BSL Champs a 5-3 come from behind win and top the BSL in offense for week 1.
