Game of the Week #17

Two clubs that could very well meet in this years playoffs are the big match for this Independence Day weekend when the Gunners take on the Suns. The Gold Coast is on a 5 match winning streak overall (4 BSL 1 MCQ) and is 6 points clear in the Honors Trophy race. Capital District has won 3 straight overall (2 BSL 1 MCQ) and is currently in 3rd place in the BSL. The Gunners have the historical edge when these two meet.

The Week's Best #16

There were many compelling matches in the league this weekend with a full slate of regular season and MC qualifier action to choose from. The best comes from the Gold Coast vs Alamo City BSL match. The first place Suns started the scoring, but were matched pound for pound the entire time. Infact, their were 5 occasions when the scored was equalized by both sides. No lead was safe and this was a match almost destined for a tie until Darlington Nagbe rocketed his first goal of the year and added an assist to close things out.

MCQ: Round 4

The qualifiers continue this week with several clubs in position to clinch a spot in the post season tournament. Cumberland Athletic, SC Canada are the last undefeated clubs in the qualifiers entering the week at 3-0-0. Victories for them and they are in. Capital District, Burud Town, Spartans 1612, and Gold Coast are all in the drivers seats and control their own fates. The Gunners impressive 7.3 PPG gives the club a real edge over some of the other 2-1-0 clubs.

Game of the Week #16

The new kids on the block meet again. This time with the stakes even higher as both sides are right in the thick of the playoff push. Cumberland Athletic is coming off a huge 6-5 win where the club now sits in 2nd place in the league table with 28 points. Meanwhile, SC Canada has moved back to a winning record and is now in 6th place and only 1 point out of playoff position. Both clubs are capable of scoring at will, so this could be very exciting.

The Week's Best #15

The most competitive match of the weekend was also previewed as the "Game of the Week" and it lived up to the billing. The two playoff contending clubs went head to head on the pitch in a real nail bitter.  After Urutti opened the scoring for Cumberland, the Stars countered with a hat trick from Baggio Husidic. Then minutes later, the Wildmary's equalized with scores from Keane and Gonzalez. With the game tied 3-3, Cumberland reclaimed the lead with a pair of scores from Nguyen and Davies, but Second City would counter with a score from Bunbury at the same time. Then minutes later, Espindola would tie the match up again 5-5. It was the defender Tierney who would score the game winner to give Cumberland the thrilling victory propelling the club into 2nd place with a 9-5-1 record. Second City fell to 8-6-1 (5th place) in a tight playoff race.

Game of the Week #15

After a week break, the league is set to get back to business. The big match of week 15 will feature Cumberland Athletic vs Second City. Both clubs are sitting at the top of the table with 8-5-1 records. These clubs 25 points in the standings has them 2 points clear of 5th place and 4 points clear for playoff seedings. The winner of this match will surely stay clear of all the clubs chasing, but the loser will be feeling the heat in a tight race.

The Week's Best #14

The most entertaining match of week 14 saw Gateway United shattered the scoring record by putting up a whooping 14 scores against Burud Town. The Saints had a total of 8 players hit the scoresheet including a hat trick from Will Bruin and a hat trick from Boniek Garcia. Also the club had a brace from Fanendo Adi and a brace from Jario Arrieta. The Stags tried to hang in their scoring 7 times themselves, which brought the total points scored in the match to 21, which is also a new BSL record.  The win is the Saints 4th in 5 matches as the club continues its dramatic turnaround after a very slow first 8 matches to the season.

Bidding War: Andrea Pirlo

The 36 year old Italian has reportedly accepted an offer to play in the States and several BSL owners have expressed an interest in his rights. There are 6 clubs interested in the bidding. Gold Coast, Spartans 1612, Capital District, Union So.Cal, Second City, and SC Canada. The purchase offer deadline for Pirlo's rights is set for Thursday June 4th at 6pm(PT).

Game of the Week #14

The "Game of the Week" in the BSL will showcase the 1st place Gold Coast FC with a 9-3-1 record versus the 2nd place Union Southern California with an 8-4-1 record. The Southlanders have the #1 offense in the league,while the Suns are tied for the 2nd best PPG. This is also the 2nd leg of the California Cup derby between these two rivals with the aggregate currently tied at 3-3.
