MCQ: Round 5

The last round of qualifiers are only days away. In "group A" Capital District and SC Canada are in the drivers seats. Both these clubs seem very poised to advance as either wins, ties, and even losses by less than  13 points is all they need. The winner of the group is still in question. Over in "group B", Cumberland Athletic has locked up the top spot and is only playing to determine whether the club will be ranked BSL#1 in the Majors Cup or lower. (Currently being ranked #1 in the MCQ will have Cumberland playing the Galaxy and the Impact) The other spot in the group is where the drama is at. Union So.Cal has the slightest advantage. A win could be enough unless Alamo City makes up it's 4 point scoring deficit. If Union So.Cal losses to 4-0-0 Cumberland Athletic, then it opens the door for Alamo City, but also Gold Coast FC and Spartans 1612.

Game of the Week #20

At this point in the season, scoreboard watching is part of the game. Playoff seeding is still undetermined and currently 9 of 12 BSL clubs still have a chance at the top 5. However, the feature match of the weekend is the 19th all-time meeting between Gateway United and Capital District. The Gunners can clinch a playoff spot with a win, but also need a win this week to have any real chance at a 3rd Honors Trophy. The Saints need a win to stay in the playoff race since a loss would make it mathematically very difficult to achieve it otherwise. This match also has Founders Cup implications. It should be a good one.

The Week's Best #19

It looks like the 2015 Honors Trophy is now a 2 team race after Gold Coast FC defeated Cumberland Athletic 7-5 in a match worthy of being listed as the "Game of the Week". The Suns jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Finlay and Clark posted a couple quick scores. Then Robbie Keane showed his class with a trio of goals to give the Wildmary's a 3-2 lead. The Suns fought back with to regain the lead including a pair of scores from Dax McCarty. Then BSL MVP candidate, Benny Feilhaber sealed the deal with another brace giving Gold Coast a little breathing room even after Attinella would post a last score for Cumberland. With the result, the Suns remain 3 points clear for first place over 2nd place Capital District, while the Wildmarys are now 7 points out of first place with only 3 matches remaining. The Honors seems unlikely now but, Cumberland is 5 points up for a playoff seed in the clubs inaugural season.

However, how can you not recognize the match between Gold Coast and Cumberland as the "Game of the Week"? This result is the Wildmary's chance at the Honors Trophy. Otherwise it could very well turn into a 2 team race to close out the season. But, if Cumberland wins, then it really will put a premium in the week's that follow.
