2016 Season Preview

A new season is upon us and it's anyone's guess who will lift hardware when its all done. Let's start with the defending BSL Cup Champions. Can the Zodiac win it all back to back and make it 4 straight BSL Finals as well? What about Gold Coast FC? Was winning he Honors Trophy last year enough satisfaction for the Suns? The CD Gunners took the BSL lead for titles with 5 total last year after winning a 2nd Majors Cup Championship. Can the club get even more? Alamo City has 4 titles of its own and will look for more in 2016. How about Union Southern California. That 2010 BSL Cup seems like a long time ago, but maybe the Southlanders can be the first club to win 2 BSL Cup's. Is this the year of the Saints? Gateway United has no BSL Cup, but a reputation for winning. Perhaps the Spartans will return to old glory. What about sophomores Cumberland Athletic and SC Canada. Both enjoyed postseason action in 2015. Will either grab hardware in year two? Perhaps newcomer Hawaii will blow away everyone in its inaugural year.

2016 Schedule Now Available

The complete 2016 BSL schedule has been announced. With the league now at 10 clubs, there are a few changes. Regular season and MCQ matches will no longer share weeks. MCQ matches have dedicated weeks all unto themselves which means MCQ matches will no longer have a different scoring system. The standard BSL scoring systems applies for all matches now. Also to accommodate the new 10 team format, the MCQualifiers standings is now one table instead of 2 groups. The top 4 still advance to the tournament and ranks 1 and 4 still advance to MC Group A, and ranks 2 and 3 still get placed in MC Group B in the post season.

League Decides Against New Pittsburgh Club

The League has decided to withdraw its invitation to the operator for a potential Pittsburgh club. "The BSL has a history of some owners quitting or possessing a lack of passion with their participation, and all signs pointed to Pittsburgh being another such in that group. With a club identity lagging behind schedule, it has been decided it will not be a risk worth pursing." said the Commissioner. "It is better to downsize the league if necessary than to have a potential new lame duck team that can affect the standings down the road."
