SC Canada will need to scoreboard watch this week. Besides needing a win, or possibly just a tie, the Mounties need the Saints to beat Portland, or the Mounties PPG needs to outscore the Timbers by 3 points if they both should win in week 3. Right now Portland has the tiebreaker edge to advance with 2 points better offense in the tournament.

Both clubs have already advanced. The winner of this match takes the top spot for the Group, but it's anybodies guess who they will play in the Semi-Finals.

The Saints can clinch advancement many different ways. A win/tie and in, but also even a loss could be enough if the club scores enough. The pressure is more on the Timbers to win and score points as well.

Recap: Majors Cup Week 2

The Gunners got a hat trick from David Villa on Friday to build a fast 3:0 lead over Hawaii and never relinquished the lead throughout. Diego Valeri also scored and Acosta had a 5th score taken away, but it would not be a factor in the end. The Islanders tried to counter with scores from Rimando and Royer. The result clinches a Semi-Final berth for Capital District, leaving next weeks match to determine the clubs seeding. Hawaii is mathematically eliminated from Majors Cup and will have to play its third match to gain the clubs first post season win in club history.

2016 BSL Cup Final

With the top two offenses on display in the 2016 BSL Cup Final, the match began on a Wednesday with plenty of fireworks.  Gateway United's Julio Baptista got the scoring started, and it was later followed by scores from Yura Movsisyan and Emmanuel Boateng. Cumberland Athletic responded with a score from its young goal keeper, Brian Rowe.

Meanwhile, Gateway's Evan Bush would be rejected with a red allowing Rob Vincent to enter the match. By the weekend, the scoring had slowed, but the cards did not. Cumberland would have a Tchani red and two other players with yellows over the weekend, allowing the Saints 2 substitutions to enter the match, although neither would have an affect on the result. Lee Nguyen would pull the Wildmary's closer with a 3:2 scoreline with his goal, but moments later Gateway United's Mancosu would have his own say. Then the moment of the match came when Sacha Kljestan hit the post not once, but twice which could have evened the score to Cumberland, instead Bradley Wright-Phillips found the back of the net to extend Gateway's lead to 5:2. Robbie Keane would add a goal to close the match, but time ran out for this one and the Saints were crowned with their first BSL Cup.

2016 BSL Cup Champions

Congratulations to the owner/operator of Gateway United. After countless winning seasons only to come up short in four previous playoffs, the club known as "the Saints" has won the BSL Cup. This is  Gateway United's 3rd league trophy in its history and gives the club "the double" for 2016. Possessing the league's #1 offense in 2016, the Saints got production from 8 different players in the playoffs showcasing the depth this club maintained. However, the top producer was Yura Movsisyan who has 2 goals and 1 assist in the playoffs.

Preview: BSL Playoffs Final

There will be a new champion of the BSL once again as two first time BSL Finals participants will go head to head. (Eight years and no club has won the BSL Cup twice, although some have come close.)

The 2016 Honors Trophy Champions, Gateway United, will look for "a double" as the club is in the big game for the first time in its 8 year history having never advanced past the Semi-Finals on several occasions.

Cumberland Athletic Club as improved upon last years great inaugural season by advancing further in the playoffs than in 2015 and is now only one win away from the clubs first trophy.

Competitively, these two clubs have met only 4 times so far and have split the 4 matches with 2 wins each since 2015.

The two sides finished 1st and 2nd respectfully in the season standings and also finished 1st and 2nd in PPG for the season, meaning oddsmakers are expecting a great match.

Will it beat the all-time highest scoring BSL Cup Final of 14 total points? Three clubs have scored 7 times in a Final as well. Can either score 8? We will just have to wait and see.
