2017 Majors Cup Champions

Congratulations to the owner/operator of Capital District for winning the Majors Cup for a third time. This is the Gunners 7th league award and the 2nd for 2017. After winning 3 of 4 match qualifiers, Capital District won 2 of 3 in the group stage. Then defeated a very tough Toronto FC lineup in the Semi's, and then capping it off with an 8-5 win over rival Alamo City in the Final. 

2017 Majors Cup Recap

With scores from 7 different players, Capital District prevailed to win the clubs 3rd Majors Cup trophy and "the Double" in 2017. David Villa was the man of the match with 2 goals, but he was supported by the rest of the lineup from top to bottom. Alamo City had a great run and put up a good fight including a hat trick from Mauro Diaz.

2017 Majors Cup Championship Preview

One of these clubs is one win away from becoming the first club to win the Majors Cup Championship 3 times. Alamo City is 2-0 in MC Finals winning in 2012 and 2013. Capital District is also 2-0 in MC Finals winning in 2011 and 2015. Both these sides have won their fair share of titles in their history. Alamo City is looking for the clubs 5th overall Championship, while Capital District is looking for the clubs 7th overall championship. 

This season these clubs have played each other 3 times. In week 5, Capital District won 6-3. Alamo City won 7-5 in match 3 of MC Qualifiers, then in week 15, they tied 8-8. All-time the Gunners lead 13 wins 5 losses 5 ties, with all-time scoring the Gunners leading 103-81. Alamo City is 2-0-0 all-time vs Capital District in postseason matches. Alamo City won 3-0 in the 2009 BSL Cup Final and won 5-3 in a 2012 Majors Cup group match. 

BSL Clubs Both Win to Advance to Final

The Majors Cup Semi-Finals went the way of the BSL as both of the leagues remaining clubs had their way with the MLS competitors. In the first match, Alamo City got a brace from Blanco to take down FC Dallas and advance to the Majors Cup Final for the 3rd time in club history and first time since 2013. In the other Semi Finals, Capital District made easy work of Toronto FC including 2 hat tricks, one from Valeri, and one from Alessandrini. The Gunners now advance to the clubs 3rd Majors Cup Final.

Alamo City, Toronto, and Dallas Advance to Semi-Finals

Alamo City won out in a barnburner versus Toronto FC in the 3rd match of Group A action, but both clubs clinched advancement to the semi's in the end. Meanwhile, the Gunners suffered their first loss of the tournament, but still ended up winning Group B. FC Dallas finished 2nd place in group B to advance. I.Hawaii and SC Canada were unable to make it out of the group stage, but both clubs had a fine season. The Semi-Finals will have Alamo City vs FC Dallas, and Capital District vs Toronto FC on Oct 15th!
