Angel Town suffered a heartbreaking playoff loss and could use this tournament as redemption for a great 2019 campaign. Ranked #1 for BSL clubs the pressure is on to perform. Carlos Vela is pretty much a lock as BSL MVP this year, but a strong Majors Cup would really seal the deal. Angel Town was the runner-up in 2014 MCT, and will look to finally win the tournament. Meanwhile, Toronto is in the MCT again. The Reds have been in the tournament the 2nd most of any club, and the most of any MLS team. However, Toronto has yet to perform well in this tourney, and now the club doesn't have Giovinco anymore. Can the Reds prove they can be more than just the Amway Canadian Cup Champs?

Spartans 1612 (BSL)
vs
Houston Dynamo (MLS)

The Spartans have a chance to win a trophy in 2019 despite finishing last in the BSL table this season. The club played very well in its qualifiers and won the East. Meanwhile, Houston is a real dark horse in this tournament. The Dynamo are one of those clubs that you just don't know what you are going to get week in and week out.

Alamo City (BSL)

NY Red Bulls (MLS)

Already sitting on a "double",  Alamo City enters the MCT with another trophy on the horizon. The Battle have won this tourney twice before in 2012 and 2013 and have the offense to do it again this year. Their opponent is the Red Bulls, who have been streaky this year, but are always a real threat. The Red Bulls have also done really well in previous MCT's including being the runner-up in 2016 MC Final.

Who isn't excited about this match? Just removed from its reign of BSL Titles, and reeling for being blown out in the playoffs, the Saints can use this match and this tournament to make a statement that the dynasty is not over. Meanwhile, Atlanta is the shinny new MLS club that is in its first MCT. Atlanta is a real threat to be the first MLS side to win the Majors Cup since 2009 with its high payroll and start power. They also have a lot of home games during this tournament where they play better.
