Inaugural Season leaves a few more questions

The MLS season is fast approaching and that means that the first BIGTIME season is also fast approaching. The league now has 6 teams (one un-named as of now) and is hopeful to have the 8 it desires.

While some questions remain such as whether or not BIGTIME should be 2 divisions with a championship game, or just a single table Euro style, other decisions have been made. The season will consist of 20 games with 10-man rosters. Also fantasy teams will be allowed to keep a Designated Player of its own. (See the attached rule book for details)

  1. Not that I think 10-man rosters is an issue, but what do you think about 13-man rosters with 10 on the field so to speak and 3 on the sidelines. That way we have the look of a full team on the field not counting the GK and the full feel of having 3 subs. I know we could Not really sub them in the middle of the game, but it sounds real.

Another idea is having a GK count as one point if he gets a clean sheet.

I like the idea of a championship but the best record should get some props like MLS does with the supporters.

  2. While I like the idea of a 13 or 14 man roster, I think its too big and there would not be enough scorng players available to draft and then pick up as free agents during the season.

However, I do like your GK idea. That would be cool

    8 starters plus 1 GK
    2 Subs.

I really need some valid thoughts on whether to go single table or championship game. A championship would really be nice, but I like single table too.

  3. I think we should keep the 10 position player roster for this season, and then after the season, look at if it's possible to expand the rosters. That way, we'll know if there are enough players to draft and pickup in free agency during the season.

I like the idea incorporating the GK too.

How about making it a single table, with the top two or four teams facing off at the end of the season for a championship/playoff?

Also, if we go with playoffs/championship, I agree with Scott about the team who finishes with the best record should get something. Like our version of the Supporters' Shield.

  4. A way we could do it is top team gets a bye and #2 and #3 play in a head to head, and the winner of that play's #1 in the championship.

That way if someone runs away with the league's best record early on, we still have something to play for. The best record team also has some excitement in trying to win our verson of the "Double"

Stick with a single table. I would hate to be stuck in a weak division and have people hating on me when I win it all. :) HA-HA.
