MATCH PREVIEW: Week 6

GATEWAY UNITED vs ALAMO CITY- The first meeting of 2011 and the 8th meeting all time, this is the Match of the Week. The Saints still bring up the clubs playoff defeat to the now Battle in 2009. Right now Gateway United is riding high having just demolished Manchester United in a friendly. Alamo City is also riding high having just tied a record held by the Saints. This should be a great game.

CD GUNNERS vs ALLIANCE FC- The Gunners are unbeaten in 4 straight and are currently sitting in 3rd place. The Lions have lost 3 league matches in a row, but aside from last week have been very competive in all matches. DeRosario will most likely make his Alliance debut.

BURUD TOWN vs GOLD COAST - The Suns have dominated this match up so far. Both clubs are in the thick of the early playoff race. Gold Coast is 3-2-0, while Burud Town is close behind at 2-2-1.

UNION SC vs PN RANGERS - The Blues have a great opportunity to even the clubs record by playing a weak Rangers club. However, as last weeks history will prove, nothing is guaranteed. Joseph will make his Union SC debut in this game.

SECOND CITY vs HILLCREST UNITED- How much will the Stars punish the Rainbows? Its hard to imagine this offense struggling for a second game in a row, so the chance for a quick result in this match is very likely. The owner of Second City should be focused on trying to increase MOV and APG points if at all possible.

    "The Export Rule"

Every summer, a select few MLS players are sold by the league to a foreign club. The league and selling club receive compensation for the sale. Currently, the BSL has no compensation for clubs who have their players sold. To simulate this, I propose a reward for "exporting" a player. Last season, Sacha Kljestan played for Union SC. MLS sold him to Anderlecht for a nominal transfer fee, but it left a void in the commissioner's team.

Under the new rule, teams would get a compensatory draft pick in the next year's draft. The pick would be at the end of the round AFTER the original round in which the transferred player was drafted. For example, Union owned Sacha Kljestan, but he was sold by MLS for a fee. He was originally drafted in the 2nd round. Therefore, Union would receive a bonus pick after the 3rd round.

There should still be some risk involved in taking a player who could possibly get transferred, so this rule compensates an owner for the loss of a talented player, but also doesn't help them until the next season (much like teams wouldn't be able to reinvest transfer funds immediately in real life).

    A couple of notes:
    - The player must be sold by MLS to an external club for a TRANSFER FEE. Players who are out of contract and leave or players who are released do not fall under this rule.
    - If you choose to take advantage of this rule, you must release the player. This prevents an owner from holding onto a player in order to use his stats in a bidding war.
    - The sale must be midseason. You can't collect a reward after the season has ended. You also can't make a player a DP in the offseason and then try to take advantage of the export rule before the season starts.
    - If a player wasn't drafted, then the team will get a bonus pick immediately before the start of the final round.

    Final example:
Say some European club was desperate for midfield help and wanted to bolster their midfield. They decide to buy Shalrie Joseph from the Revs for a modest fee. Normally, Union SC would be screwed, especially considering the recent trade, and be out of a productive player. Under the new rule, Union SC would receive a bonus pick at the end of the 5th round (Joseph was selected in the 4th round).

  4. I vote yes.

Drop Alen Stevanovic for Dilly Duka (CLB)

Also, willing to trade DP striker Andres Mendoza, if anyone wants to make an offer.

  5. So what about someone like Edson Buddle. He doesn't count because he left as a free agent, not a transfer right?

  6. That is my understanding of it. Just players in MID SEASON that are transfer overseas. (not offseason and not free agency)

  7. I'm worried this is yet another disadvantage for expansion clubs to overcome.

  8. I don't think so, because it is only compensating an extra draft pick for what is most likely a lost chance at a DP for the club.

  9. Upon thought, I will vote No.

  10. This sounds like a well thought out idea, so I don't want to offend this person, but I will vote No. This is not meant to offend anyone.

  11. I love the thought, and I feel this is something we need to explore further.

I'm voting NO -> in this current form of the idea.

I think we can all flesh out this idea to make it work though.
