WEEK 4: Ties Keep 4 Clubs Unbeaten

SPARTANS 3 GATEWAY UNITED 3 - The feature match up for week 4 between two unbeaten clubs got its scoring started with a Kenny Cooper penalty kick to give Gateway United the opening point. Jon Busch then countered for the Spartans with 2 scores on his own, a clean sheet and 6 saves. Both clubs scored in the Saturday nightcap. Sene got a goal and Joseph got an assist. On Sunday, with the Spartans leading 3-2, Jimmy Nielsen salvaged a point for the Saints with a clean sheet without having to make a single save. Both clubs remain unbeaten for the 2012 season, but New York now has 3 ties in the first 4 weeks. BOXSCORE: Spartans- Busch(CS SP), Sene(G), Corradi(Y), Grazzini(Y). SECOND CITY 4 BURUD TOWN 1 -The Stars spread the wealth around as 4 players scored throughout the match highlighted by a masterful goal from Kyle Beckerman. Meanwhile, the Stags offense continues to struggle as only Saunders was able to get on the scoreboard. Burud Town is pointless after 4 weeks completed. BOXSCORE: Stars- Solli(A), Sanna Nyassi(G), Beckerman(G Y), Rimando(SP). Stags- Saunders(SP), Lenhart(Y).

PENNSYLVANIA 2 CD GUNNERS 2 - The Gunners took an early lead when newly signed Rafa Marquez popped in an assist. Saborio and Espindola traded scores keeping the District ahead by 1. Late on Saturday Robbie Keane brought in the equalizer for the Stoners. BOXSCORE: Stoners- Espindola(A), Keane(G). Gunners- Marquez(A), Saborio(G).

ALLIANCE 3 GOLD COAST 1 - It took a while, but DeRosario found his scoring touch and helped the Lions to their first win of the season. New goal keeper Tornaghi also came through in his debut for the club. Gold Coast got another goal from Omar Cummings for the 2nd week in a row, but finished with a 3rd defeat in 4 matches. BOXSCORE: Lions- DeRosario(A A Y), Tornaghi(SP). Suns- Cummings(G), Gaven(Y).

ROSE CITY 6 UNION SC 4 - There was no pity on Union SC, as the Flyers recorded the clubs third straight win scoring an impressive 6 points. Maicon Santos opened the scoring with 3 points in his farewell match with the club. Nagbe continued the scoring with the game winner and a total of 2 goals. As for Union SC, well its another match with a decent showing and nothing gained. The club is averaging over 3 points a game and only has 1 point in the standings. BSL clubs appear to be feasting on the Blues lack of defense. BOXSCORE: Flyers- Santos(G G A), Nagbe(G G), Sapong(G). Blues- Wondolowski(G), Buddle(A), Pickens(CS SP), Alonso(Y).

ALAMO CITY 6 KC QUEST 2 - Another superstar performance from Henry, who had 4 points by himself, gave the Battle a commanding lead in this match and contributions from Rowe and Perez gave the club another 6 point finish. The Battles #1 offense puts the club in first place over Gateway United. On the other side, Kansas City got a few scores to keep the game respectable. BOXSCORE: Battle- Henry(G G G A), Rowe(G), Perez(G). Quest- McCarty(A), Gruenebaum(CS).

  2. As a real life Timbers fan, I can say with absolute certainty that Beckerman's was not Goal of the Week. I was there. *cry*
