WEEK 12: Stoners Fight Back for First Place

PENNSYLVANIA 3 ROSE CITY 2 - The face-off for first place started off with a late line up submission from the Stoners. But, the partnership did get going first when Renteria scored a goal and assist midweek and followed it up with another score on Saturday to average 2 points. (Minus 1 point for the lineup failure) Marvin Chavez countered for Rose City and the score was tied 1-1 after Saturdays action. On Sunday, CJ Sapong and Kei Kamara scored together to make the game 2-2. It looked like the "LF" was going to cost the Stoners a victory, but Kamara came through with another score and that proved to be the game winner and moved Pennsylvania back into first place in the BSL Standings by having a better APG than the Flyers. The defeat ends Rose City's 4 game winning streak. BOXSCORE: Stoners- Renteria(2T -1LF), Kamara(G A), Espindola(Y). Flyers- Chavez(A), Sapong(G).
-
SPARTANS 5 KC QUEST 0 - The romp was on early in this game, as the Spartans scored accross its entire lineup. 5 different players got in the action without any response from the Quest who continue to struggle losing their 6th game in a row. BOXSCORE: Spartans- Koevermans(G), Grazzini(G), Sene(G), Zusi(A), Myers(A). Quest- None.
-
CD GUNNERS 6 ALLIANCE 3 - As expected, both clubs provided a quality match, as both have show major improvement on the pitch since the season started. However, its was the Gunners who were able to pull away once Saborio scored a couple of goals in the late night Saturday action. Dawkins provided extra insurance on Sunday. The Gunners  would get scores from 5 starters this week and are beginning to show the depth the champions had in 2011. Its a nice opener for the Majors Cup qualifiers. BOXSCORE: Gunners- Montero(1T), Rivero(A Y), Santos(G), Saborio(G G), Dawkins(1T). Lions-DeRosario(A), Stephenson(1T), Angel(G).
-
ALAMO CITY 4 SECOND CITY 2- The Battle got points from players who had been underachieving the majority of May, like Chris Boyd and Branco Boskovic to defeat the Stars in week 12 action. The win is the 2nd straight after a horrid losing streak for Alamo City and might be a sign the club is returning to its early season form. Meanwhile the Stars got another good game from Brad Davis, but the rest of the starters have been inconsistent. BOXSCORE: Battle- Perez(1T), Boyd(G), Hassli(A), Boskovic(A). Stars- Davis(A), Estrada(1T).
-
GATEWAY UNITED 4 UNION SC 2 -The Saints found their offense after struggling for many weeks, to double up on the Blues. There were 6 cards in this game, 3 from each side, but no subs scored in this match. The win makes Gateway United's all time record against Union SC a staggering 5-1-4. BOXSCORE: Saints- Beckham(1T Y), Cooper(G), Castrillon(G), Corrales(1T), Espinoza(Y), Nielsen(Y). Blues- Buddle(1T), Pappa(1T Y), Alonso(Y), DeGuzman(Y).
-
BURUD TOWN 3 GOLD COAST 2 - The Stags are quietly making their way back from a horrible 1-7-0 start to the season extending their current unbeaten streak to 4 games. This week the club pulled away from a 2-2 score, when goal keeper Bill Hamid racked up enough saves for the game winner. This is only the 2nd time in 7 meetings that Burud Town has defeated the Gold Coast. The Stags could be a serious threat to take a Majors Cup spot, if the club continues its recent surge. BOXSCORE: Stags- Lenhart(G Y), Richards(A), Hamid(SP), Pajoy(Y). Suns- Tierney(A), Larentowicz(G), Lindpere(Y).

NOTE: Week 13 action does not begin until June 16th due to World Cup qualifers.

  1. Geez. That one got away from me. I was hoping that Kennedy would come up with something. Congrats to the Stoners. At least it wasn't an 8-0 romp.

So we just need to submit a lineup before the 16th for that week and disregard any games before that?

    1. Yes. You can ignore the two MLS games between now and then.

Seems kind of weird to have just two games over a two week stretch, but then again I hate the unbalanced schedule this year. I would think there would be either no games or more than just one game per weekend.
