CD GUNNERS 4 ALAMO CITY 3 - The Game of the Week featured two rivals playing for 3 possible trophies. Alamo City for the 2nd week in a row needed a win to capture the Honors Trophy and had to play its BSL Classic rivals, and Founders Cup rivals to get it. Historically, the Gunners have owned this rivalry only losing once, in a BSL Final to boot! The match started off the way the Battle wanted it with Hassli scoring first. Then Freddy Montero equalized for the Gunners before Eddie Johnson made it 2-1 and Felipe Martins made it 3-1 for Alamo City. The major moment in the game came when Saborio scored off a Morales assist (both Gunners) at Rio Tinto Stadium tieing the match 3-3. Then in the Sunday nightcap, Garcia pulled in the game winner shocking Alamo City and giving the Gunners the BSL Classic for the third straight year, and the 2012 Founders Cup and taking away the Honors Trophy from the Battle. As if this rivalry could get any bigger. BOXSCORE: Gunners- Montero(G), Morales(A), Saborio(G), Garcia(A). Battle- Hassli(1T Y), E.Johnson(G), Martins(A), Boskovic(Y), Hamid(Y).
GATEWAY UNITED 6 PENNSYLVANIA 5 - These two clubs were the other Game of the Week since the winner had the chance of winning the Honors Trophy pending the result of the Alamo City game. Little did they know Alamo City's loss made this the match for first place. Pennsylvania scored first with a Robbie Keane goal in a match that the Saints had no Beckham or Donovan playing. Castillo and Kamara and Gspurning added scores for the Stoners with Neilsen getting one for the Saints. The Stoners had a 4-1 lead. Rolfe and MacDonald traded scoring in the Fire game turning the scoreline to 5-2 in favor of the Stoners. It seemed like Pennslyvania had this match locked up. Then the comeback started as Jackson scored an assist, then Mullan scored a goal. Finally Kenny Cooper became the hero getting the equalizer and the game winner for Gateway United on Sunday. By the end of the week, with the results all in, Gateway United's league record 4.3 APG gave the club first place in the BSL and the Honors Trophy. BOXSCORE: Saints- Nielsen(CS), Rolfe(G), Mullan(G), Jackson(A), Cooper(G A). Stoners- Keane(G), Castillo(1T), McDonald(G), Kamara(G), Gspurning(CS), Espindola(Y), Camilo(Y).
-SPARTANS 3 GOLD COAST 2 - Tim Cahill's first goal in America was the game winner breaking a 2-2 tie late. The win wraps up a very successful first season for the Spartans who only lost 4 times in 22 matches. It was the clubs record setting 10 ties that cost the club postseason action. Gold Coast finishes 2012 way behind the clubs finalist pace of a year ago and will need to rebuild. BOXSCORE: Zusi(A), Gaven(1T), Cahil(G), S.Johnson(Y). Suns- Bernier(G A), Frings(Y).
ROSE CITY 4 BURUD TOWN 3 - The Flyers look primed and ready for next weeks playoffs. The club had 4 players score points to finish with 13 wins in the inaugural season.
