BSL RULEBOOK

What do the abbreviations mean on a BSL boxscore?

Earned points (G) = goal  (A) = assist   (CS) = clean sheet (goalies only)  (SP) = saves point (goalies only)
Lost points  (LF)  = lineup failure (late lineup)  (WF)  = website failure (un-compliant club website)
To get subs in the scoreline (Y) = yellow card  (R) = red card

How long is an entire season with all the possible qualifications?

Regular season: 16 weeks (16 matches split into 2 parts)
Playoffs: 3 weeks (quarterfinal/semifinal/final)
North America Majors Cup: 4 weeks (opening round/quarter-final/semifinal/final)
Continents Championship Series: 3 weeks (quarterfinal/semifinal/final)

What does a BSL roster look like?

Each club consists of 18 players total. 10 Starting position players, 1 Starting Goal Keeper, 3 Substitute players, 4 Reserve players
Starters: The only players on your roster guaranteed to count in the boxscore.
Subs: If your opponent acquires enough cards, your subs can start coming in to earn points in the game. Sub #1 comes in first.
Reserve Players: Do Not count in the boxscore

How scoring is calculated

Scoring: Position players = goals/assist = 1 point each.  Goal keepers = clean sheets / 5 saves = 1 point each. Yellow cards: BSL Rosters with 2 yellow cards allows their opponents 1st-3rd sub to enter the scoring in that order. Red Cards: BSL Roster with a red card allows their opponents 1st-3rd sub to enter the scoring in that order.
Playoff game tiebreakers: 1 - all unused players off the bench get added up in total. 2 - the club with more player contributions wins. 3 - the club with more goals. 4 - the club with more assists. 5 - the goalie with more saves.
Standings tiebreakers: 1- Best TO = Tallied Offense. 2- most wins 3- better head to head result.
Multiple MLS Games in same week: If an MLS team plays two games in the same week, the players that have multiple league (not CCL, USOC) matches will be
scored as follows:
Multi-scoring: Whether a position player or goal keeper, the players better game of that week will count in the boxscore. for example, your player scores 2 goals on a Wednesday, and 0 scores on Sunday. His Wednesday game would count. The same goes for Goal Keepers. For example, he has 5 saves on Wednesday, but no clean sheet or enough saves on Sunday. Therefore Wednesday is used as his better
match that week. The 2 matches are not combined or averaged out. The better game will be used solely for that week.
Multi-Cards: To balance the reward out, the risk for using a player having multi games in the week is he will have a better chance to get carded.
The players total card accumulation will go in effect. Any cards received in the week will count, but cannot have 2 yellows in a BSL game. If the player receives red in either game he will be red carded out of the BSL match. Multi-week players are playing 180 minutes.
In-game player injuries:
If a player is started in a BSL match, they will count in the box score regardless of how many minutes they have played or not played.
Injured goal keepers/clean sheet: A keeper has to play at least 45 minutes to qualify for a clean sheet point.

Late lineup submissions

Minimum infraction: If you post your line-up on your clubs website after the first MLS game of the week has started, the minimum penalty is losing 1 game day point from the first eventual scorer on your roster.
If your club is shutout, you remain at a zero score. There is no minus scores.
Extra points lost: If by the time you post your line-up some of your players have already scored, those players and their points will not count (those players are void that week) Only the players who have
not scored yet on your roster at the time posted will be able to count.
Zero points
Failure to post your lineup by the conclusion of the final tally will result in a zero score.

Standardized league and club websites

Website design guidelines: You will lose 1 point on your final score each week if your website does not meet these guidelines. (Go into blogger Theme, then customize), as your site must:
1- Be the "Awesome" theme template.
2- Have a single width body layout
3. Adjusted width to not exceed 1080 px size dimensions
4- Your "page text" must be your team colors.
Header: This must have your team logo on it to the left of the top of the page.
Pages:  This must include the added categories of CLUB/ROSTER/SCHEDULE up top the website.
Attribution image: It is recommended to have your club name or logo displayed on the bottom of the website.

How transactions and free agency works

Free AgencyYou can sign players after the draft is concluded, and up all the way until the CCS Final result. Regardless if you qualify for the post season or not.
Player transfers: You are allowed to fiddle with your roster all season long. If you are unsure if a player is available email the commish.
NOTE* Official changes must be made on the BSL Network for the whole league to see. This promotes transparency. Emailing correspondence or comments even with the commissioner does not make it official.
Transparency: Posting roster moves on the BSL Network allows the rest of the league to be in the know. Be considerate of the other BSL clubs
and their transactions before you make yours.

Cutoff time for each weekPlayer changes can go into effect for the soonest match if posted before the first MLS game of the new week.
Roster spaceBSL clubs cannot go over their 18-man roster space. You will have to drop one of your existing players to acquire a new one.
waiver periodOnce a player is dropped from their BSL club roster, they are on a 24 hour waiver period. This gives all club operators in different time zones a chance to see who has been released.

Newly signed players to the MLS

Bidding Wars
Players signed internationally via transfer once the season starts must go through the following process:
1- The news must be on the MLS website. No more social media / blogs / international outlets to get your news.
2- The league website will post the clubs in the bidding process. If you are interested in participating notify the commish before the post. You have 24 hours once news breaks on the MLS website to request.
3 - Once bidding begins, place your bid in the comments of that post.
4 - A player used to win a bidding war cannot be used again in another bidding war until the next season. Regardless if he is on a new BSL club roster.
5 - Offered players must match the same position as the incoming transferred player.

How the offseason and drafts work

Draft Process: You are allowed to pick players from any of the MLS teams regardless of their position. The draft is the only time of the season where you may email your player choices, and they will be valid.
Draft Order: Last years worst record picks first, followed by the next non-playoff clubs in the order of worst ranking. Expansion teams pick next in the order they joined the league. Last years playoff clubs follow in the order of the playoff rankings. BSL Cup champion (regardless of playoff ranking) picks last.
Draft time limitOnce your email is sent to you, the BSL team operator has 2 hours to make a pick. If they go over 2 hours they will be skipped and the BSL operator will have to make 2 selections on their next turn unless special consideration is made by the Commissioner.

How to save and protect players before the draft?

Existing BSL clubs OWN THE RIGHTS to their roster players until the NEW SEASONS drafts. They have the option to trade away these players or other BSL players or trade for someone else's draft picks as long as the players they trade for are on a BSL roster.

Pre-Draft Slots You can Fill

Designated PlayersReturning BSL teams may keep 3 players as Designated Players from last years roster. These players will not be available in the draft.
Retention playerBSL owners may also keep 1 "transacted" player from last years current roster that was un-drafted in the BSL that season. The TRANSACTIONS tab on the league website will hold all additions/subtractions until a new season is started allowing owners to see their previous free agent signings.
ReEntry PlayerBSL owners may trade for 1 player from an opponents existing BSL roster from last season and protect this player as a "Re-Entry" player. Unlike a Designated Player, a Re-Entry player must come from an outsiders BSL roster. Clubs may trade player for player or draft picks. Keep in mind the level of players available will most likely be players not protected as Designated Players. This is a rule to help stimulate mid-level activity in the off seasons. (The BSL version of TAM)
Allocation Player: Similar to a ReEntry player, this slot can only be used by trading with another BSL club before the drafts begin. However, it can only be obtained by trading a draft pick in order to secure the acquisition, and the slot for the intended player you want to sign. The Allocation Player slot is voluntary and not required. It is simply another method to secure the rights to a player before the drafts begin, and another tool for BSL owners to use to add excitement to their offseason roster building.

**A BSL owner does not need to make any offseason moves, and can simply draft all 18 roster slots if they wish.

How the NAMC works?

North America Majors Cup:
The top 8 BSL clubs from the first half of the BSL regular season will play in this mid-season single elimination tournament against MLS clubs. The Champion of the NAMC gets a spot in the CCS. Secondary assists do not count in this tournament.

How the Playoffs work?

The top 3 BSL clubs in each conference of the BSL regular season will play in a single elimination tournament. The Conference winners get a 1st round bye.

How the CCS works?

Continental Championship Series:
The BSL Champions, Honors Trophy Champions, Majors Cup Champions, Blue Ribbon winner, play in a tournament against champions from European leagues. If there is a multiple trophy winner (double or treble), the head to head winner between the runner-up's of Majors Cup/BSL Cup get's the spot. If two spots are needed both runner-up's get in. Secondary assists do not count in CCS action.
