HIATUS

The BSL is currently on break for the 2023 Season. 

It is a fantasy league for Major League Soccer that played from 2009 to 2022.

I would like to thank all the participants of the past and present that played in the BSL. Your enthusiasm and game play helped make each season a joy. 

Whether you played 1 season, 3 seasons, or all 14 seasons, I appreciate the interest you gave this fantasy league. 

2023

BSL Season Canceled After 14 Years

After months of attempts to bring in new participants without any success, the league is left with the decision to cancel the 2023 BSL season. Throughout the years the BSL has seen interest go through highs and lows. But, this offseason was different as the momentum hit an all-time low. Soccer in the United States continues to grow. MLS now has 29 clubs, but for reasons unknown, the fantasy side this year cannot make that same claim. Perhaps the Apple TV deal played a role. Perhaps something else. I want to thank everyone for their past participations. Enjoy the 2023 MLS season as I am sure it will be a great one. 

OFFSEASON

2023 Deadlines Delayed

The 2023 BSL new season deadline announcements will be delayed as the league looks for new clubs as the participation levels for returning clubs is below making a schedule, and setting previous player signing deadlines at this time.  

During the Covid lockdowns the BSL experienced an increase in demand, but it appears a return to normal life has had a new impact on interest.

LEAGUE AWARDS

Season fourteens most valuable players in each positioned categories have been released. 

This season Julian Carranza (Republic City) was chosen as the most valuable forward. Carranza really excelled this season in his environment and made a huge impact in some key results for the Republic. The club does not win the Blue Ribbon or CCS without him. The 2022 best midfielder is Hany Mukhtar (Alamo City) who has now won the award in back to back seasons. Mukhtar keeps putting up big numbers for the Battle. The most valuable Goal Keeper is Andre Blake (Capital District). Blake was a huge part of the Gunners 2nd half resurgence that turned a club that missed the Majors Cup into the eventual BSL Champions. 

CONTINENTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

The 2022 CCS Final had to wait an extra week after Manchester City's match was postponed. The wait was well worth it though as both clubs played well.  Man City built a 6-2 lead at the conclusion of the clubs result. The match changed dramatically when Diego Fagundez registered a huge brace for the Republic. Then, the Orlando duo of Kara and Pereyra brought home the victory for Republic City.  Congratulations to Republic City for winning the 2022 Continents Crown. This is the clubs 1st trophy in its 3 year history.

CONTINENTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

The final clubs have been determined in the quest for the crown. Manchester City is still as dominate as ever, and will look to shut down another BSL opponent. Republic City was the BSL's highest scoring club in 2022, and is looking to win the clubs first trophy. Buckle up, the action starts Wednesday.

CONTINENTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Haaland continues his dominance with another hat-trick to advance Manchester City into the CCS Final. The Cityzens have been the highest scoring club in the tournament thus far. The Republic edged out Phoenix with Dairon Aprilla's goal the late difference to break the 5-5 tie. Republic City is heading to the clubs first ever championship final.

CONTINENTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

The matches for the CCS Semifinals are set! The hottest club anywhere has to be Capital District who have only scored less than 8 points once since week 12 of the regular season.  A rematch of the playoff semifinals between Republic City and Phoenix Sky is on tap. Phoenix won the playoff match 10-5 just a few weeks ago.

CONTINENTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

The quest for the crown has some splendid play to start the tournament. Haaland scored a hat-trick of 3 goals for Manchester City to get things started. Daniel Gazdag scored 3 goals also for Capital District to take down Bayern Munich. Dairon Asprilla scored the game winner for the Republic. Maxi Morales broke a 5-5 tie with a late Sunday goal to advance the Sky.

CONTINENTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Next week the best of the best will compete. The reigning Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A Champions will face off against the reigning Champions of the BSL. It's the ultimate title of bragging rights.

The opening round matches are now set with kick off beginning August 26.

Capital District: 2022 BSL Cup Champions

The Gunners have won the clubs 3rd BSL Cup with a 12-6 victory over the Phoenix Sky.  The club scored 30 points in its 3 playoff matches. 

Gazdag and Quioto each had hat tricks in the BSL Cup Final.

This is the 11th championship overall for the Gunners all-time.

Capital District has now clinched a spot in the 2022 CCS.

RULEBOOK

The 2022 season is almost done, and before Winter arrives it is time to announce what you can look forward to in 2023. To further interest, and activity during the offseason, the BSL will be adding an Allocation Player slot. 

What is an Allocation player in the BSL? Similar to a ReEntry player, this slot can only be used by trading with another BSL club before the drafts begin. However, it can only be obtained by trading a draft pick in order to secure the acquisition, and the slot for the intended player you want to sign. 

Since the ReEntry rule was added to the league a few years ago, offseason trading increased, and offseason activity increased. However most of that activity has been direct player for player trades. Draft slot trades have been rare.

Just like Designated Players, Retention Players, ReEntry Players, The Allocation Player slot is voluntary and not required. It is simply another method to secure the rights to a player before the drafts begin, and another tool for BSL owners to use to add excitement to their offseason roster building. A BSL owner does not need to make any offseason moves, and can simply draft all 18 roster slots if they wish.

PLAYOFFS

The 14th BSL Cup Final is set to begin this Tuesday! On one side you have the Phoenix Sky, the 2022 Honors Trophy Champions making the clubs first appearance in the big game. On the other side you have Capital District making the clubs 7th appearance in the final match. The Gunners are looking to become the third club to win the BSL Cup 3 times.

PLAYOFFS

Neither Semifinal match would end up coming down to the wire as some were expecting, but they were still filled with plenty of action. 

The Sky poured in 10 points to double up the Republic and are going to the BSL Cup Final. 

Capital District held off a late Alamo City comeback to also advance to the BSL Cup Final.

The 2022 BSL Playoffs continue with the four highest scoring clubs in the league left. So no lead will be safe until the final whistles blow. 

The matches are set to start 8/13.

PLAYOFFS

Capital District continued the clubs summer resurgence scoring 10 times to take out Angel Town and advance to the Semi-Finals of the playoffs. The Gunners went on cruise control after Lucas Zelarayan scored a hat-trick.

Washington rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to score 5 unanswered points to defeat Bay City 5-2 for the clubs first ever playoff win. Ring, and Finlay, each had an assist on the same score that was the game winner.

Garcia has spent his entire career at Once Caldas since debuting as a pro in 2017. He has 22 goals and eight assists in 112 appearances across all competitions.

Benteke has 86 goals and 23 assists in 280 Premier League matches, featuring for Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Aston Villa. He’s also competed extensively in his home country for Genk.
