- The expanded playoffs would be 6 teams qualifying. Conference winners would get a first round bye, with ranks 3-6 playing in the first round. Conference winners will be ranked 1 and 2, regardless if a 2nd place team has a better record.
- The Majors Cup might also expand to 10 BSL clubs qualifying. With ranks 7-10 playing in Round 1, while ranks 1-6 start in Round 2 (Round of 16).
A larger BSL would require expanding the postseason to keep interest levels optimal, while still rewarding the higher seeds with bye's in both tournaments. Regardless of the number of BSL clubs, the regular season length is not going to get longer. I know some of you like a balanced schedule, but the reality is, player engagement drops for those at the bottom of the table after about 12 weeks. Therefore, if the league grows further, it's the postseason that will expand, not the regular season.
NOTE: These changes will only take place if the league does go beyond 12 clubs in a season.

Let's get to 16 teams! What do you think.
ReplyDeleteHa. Young Padawan. Let's see the number of returning players before you aim for 16. Although Covid probably helps fantasy leagues. More people working from home.
