I believe as long as the player is not being used in a Bidding War, there's no minimum amount of time a player as to play to be picked up and dropped.
If I remember correctly, I did something like this awhile ago where I picked up someone, turned around and dropped him almost immediately for someone else.

He's not trading him or bidding with him. So it is okay
