2015 Preview: Rose City Flyers

The Flyers are the kings of the post-season once the club get's in. The Flyers have never lost a post-season match.(7-0-0 all-time). Qualifying hasn't always been pretty, but once the Flyers do get in, you best watch out! The issue with Rose City year after year has been the draft. The club has not drafted well. Each season its high draft picks have been horrible. In 2012, the club drafted Alejandro Moreno in the first round and he did nothing. Last year the Flyers traded away a 1st round draft pick and signed Diego Fagundez to a DP contract and he stank. What saves Rose City is the owner is historically the best at the free agent market. More than any other club, the Flyers pick up mid-season maniacs that completely change the clubs fortunes. . Club highlights: 2-time champions (2012 BSL Cup, 2014 Majors Cup)

  1. I still remember when I lost 7-0 in a playoff game.

  2. I like the Rimando pick in the round you got him

  3. I think Fagundez shocked a lot of people on how poor he played last year.

  4. Thanks guys. The criticism is warranted but I'm unsure how to really improve. I'm clearly better at the draft than year 1 but not nearly where I ought to be. I also think I'm as good as anyone else (maybe better) in late draft rounds but those first couple picks never seem to go right.

I got tired of not having a strong keeper and figured Rimando's likely to be worth as much or more than any other player that was available in Round 5. And yes, shock all around on Fagundez. I had high hope to build the franchise around him for the next few years. He was still worth 10pts but was startlingly worse than expectations.

  5. You have more hardware than me so advice from me seems kind of unnecessary. The draft is not where its all at. I think you have proved that several times. But the early rounds should go to players that are the face of the MLS. They get the minutes. They have the pressure. They have the paycheck. After round 2 you can get a fagundez or hot prospect. Middle rounds i like to get the consistent roll players. Late rounds just guys that get opportunities. Everyone will have have different opinions so have confidence in yours. Good luck until you play me.

  6. Honestly, I feel like most players who would qualify as "Face of MLS" end up on a roster and never leave because they're DPs. There are obviously exceptions but even late first round ends up being pretty sparse in that regard. That's just me though. I feel like I need a whole spreadsheet/program to help out with draft.

  7. I have a pretty extensive list if you remember our conversation on the draft last year. Looking over things though, even with up too 3 people protected on each team before the draft .... There's starting, quality players to be had in the 3-5 rounds. Hell, the 5th round this year, on paper, might be the most impressive and potentially most productive relative to position taken.

    1. I agree that there are great players to be had in the later rounds. That's usually how my squad ends up being constructed, out of solid guys from the middle rounds.

  8. It's going to get really interesting when the MLS keeps growing and we have even more clubs to draft from.
