GAME 19: Union SC Breaks Scoring Record

BOXSCORES
UNION SC 9 ST.LOUIS 3
The Blues overcame the scoring drought against St.Louis in a big way as the club broke the BSL single game scoring record with 9 points. The Cure held the early lead in this game when Dane Richards had a goal and assist. The 2-0 lead vanished quickly as several players on the Blues roster had multiple points. Conor Casey was allowed to come in off the bench and add in his 3 points when the Cure received the 2nd of the clubs 3 yellow cards.

MONTGOMERY 2 GOLD COAST 2
A late Justin Braun goal salvaged a tie for Gold Coast. The Monarchs had built a 2-1 lead with the help of a Henry goal, but could not hold on. All is not lost for the champs, as the club plays the new third place Burud Town in its season finale. Gold Coast will need to win next week and have Burud Town tie or lose its final game.

BURUD TOWN 3 GATEWAY UTD. 1
The Stags 2nd straight win has pushed the club into third place in the league standings. Burud Town can clinch a playoff spot with a win next week or possibly a tie depending on other club outcomes. The Saints were eliminated from playoff contention, but still have the season finale to try and get a Majors Cup berth.
___________________________________________
CD GUNNERS 3 NY GREEKS 2
The Gunners won the Empire Cup and saved their season for another game. The player of the game was Freddy Montero who's 2 goals were the difference. This is the second minor trophy the Gunners have won in 2010. With 26 points on the season, the Gunners need to win their last match and do a little scoreboard watching as well.

MATCH PREVIEW: Game 19

___________________________
GOLD COAST vs MONTGOMERY
Owning the tiebreaker over all the BSL clubs chasing the last 2 playoff spots, it is possible that the Suns could clinch a playoff ranking with a win in this game. It will not be easy though, as the Monarchs have the best record in the last 8 games and have roared back into the playoff chase. To say this is a huge game would be an understatement.
____________________________
GATEWAY UTD. vs BURUD TOWN
Another game with huge playoff chase implications. The loser of this match most likely will be all but eliminated from the chase. There are a lot of scenarios that will determine this, but this is practically a must-win for these two clubs.

UNION SC vs ST.LOUIS
The Blues have had a hard time scoring against the Cure and will need to break that habit fast. Meanwhile the Cure owner has been quiet as of late and might be taking it easy having already clinch the playoffs and a Majors Cup berth.

The final installment of the Empire Cup. Also the Gunners have to win this game or the clubs season could be statisically over. Its going to be a pressure packed weekend.

GAME 18: Standings Tighter, 2 Clubs Clinch Majors

BOXSCORES
GOLD COAST 6 NEW YORK 0
After being blanked for 2 straight games, the Suns came out blasting on route to the clubs biggest win in club history. Brian Ching lead the way with a hat trick. Also on the score sheet was Jewsbury, Garey and Hartman. The Greeks used up all their 8th ranked offense last week and had nothing to offer this game. The result is a huge win for Gold Coast propelling the club into 2nd place in the BSL standings and giving the club a 4 point lead in Majors Cup qualifying with only 2 games remaining on the season.

MONTGOMERY 5 GATEWAY UTD. 3
The two hottest clubs in the league did not disappoint as both sides got good production. The Monarchs just did better and moved to only a single point from a playoff spot. Meanwhile the Monarchs stellar 2nd half clinched a Majors Cup spot for the club (currently in first place). The Champs did not qualify for the Majors Cup group stage in 2009, so this will be the clubs first opportunity. Gateway United is still very much in both races and continues to show a renewed strength.
_____________________________________
BURUD TOWN 5 ST. LOUIS 2
The Stags broke the slump to get the clubs first win since Game 10. It was a big one too as Burud Town man-handled St. Louis to its 2nd ever loss. Kei Kamara scored a goal and 2 assist to be the player of the game. The Cure must be content on the clubs current clinching and must not be interested in the league records for wins and points as the owner made no roster moves. The result was 2 scores left on the bench. The Cure did clinch a Majors Cup group stage spot even with defeat.
_____________________________________
UNION SC 2 CD GUNNERS 2
The Blues are desperate to make the playoffs and seem to be doing it one point at a time. Once again the club would have to settle for a tie. The Gunners got scores from its RedBull tandem of Angel/Marquez, but was blanked the rest of the way. Union SC finally got a goal from DeRosario after a very long absense, but needed a Wondolowski goal to salvage the tie.

MATCH PREVIEW: Game 18

____________________________
MONTGOMERY vs GATEWAY UTD.
The two hottest teams in the BSL meet up. Montgomery County has completely turned around its season in the 2nd half and is looking really strong at making it to the Majors Cup group stage. Even more amazing is the Monarchs have a legit chance at making the playoffs and repeating as BSL Champions also. Gateway United has risen into 3rd place in both standings. This is always a good match-up, but the stakes haven't been this high between these two since the BSL Semi-Final game.
_______________________
ST.LOUIS vs BURUD TOWN
44 points in the standings and counting for the Cure. That does not bold well for Burud Town which is mixed in with the majority of the league for the last 2 playoff spots. The Stags really need to find its offense and overcome St. Louis regardless of its record.
_______________________CD GUNNERS vs UNION SC
Both clubs are struggling. The Blues have been hit by the injury bug and still are waiting for Conor Casey to return. Now Steve Zakuani is out too. The Gunners have actually been playing decent with the exception of last week, but haven't been getting in the win column.
_______________________GOLD COAST vs NEW YORK
The Greeks had their best game ever last week when they got goals from several players. Meanwhile, the Suns haven't scored in 2 weeks. Therefore, its anybodies guess who will prevail in this one. Gold Coast may be trailing in the playoff race now, but don't forget the club holds a very big tiebreaker with very few games remaining.

GAME 17: Only 3 Points Seperate 2nd Thru 7th Place

BOXSCORES
ST. LOUIS 4 CAPITAL DISTRICT 1
The Cure rolled to another victory extending its current unbeaten streak to 6 games. Several players contributed to the scoreline for St. Louis. Espindola scored in 2 different games with a goal and an assist to tally an average of 1 point. Javier Morales popped in 2 goals. Buddle got his 13th goal of the season and Brek Shea added in an assist. Capital District had a rough game that saw Juan Pablo Angel get a yellow card out of frustration. Fredy Montero was nailed in the box and was lucky to have continued the match. The Gunners are having a hard time finding points as of late, but still remain on 1 point out from a playoff spot.
__________________________________________________________________
MONTGOMERY 4 UNION SC 2
The Monarchs are on a roll earning another 3 points in the standings. This win was huge for the club as it was at the expense of the 2nd place Blues in the standings and really makes the chance of a playoff spot a real possibility now. The game started with Henry scoring an assist. LeToux would equalize for Union SC on Wednesday. The Blues would take the lead off a Ricketts clean sheet. Then David Ferreira scored a goal and assist to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead. Chris Wondolowski could have tied it up, but was on the bench. Even though he was first in line to come in, Montgomery County had no yellows in the game. Kasey Keller put any drama to rest with a clean sheet of his own. The Monarchs have either won or tied all 6 meetings against Union SC.
___________________________________________________________________
GATEWAY UTD 2 GOLD COAST 0
Another hot team in the BSL is the Saints. Even without its Fire trio, the club managed to win its third straight game and move from 6th to 3rd place in the BSL standings. Danny Mwanga continued his excellent play by scoring a goal in each of his games this week. He only needed one to score the game winner. Jeff Cunningham added in the insurance score, which is his 3rd goal in 2 games. Gold Coast had very few scoring chances. Brian Ching, Justin Braun, Mista, and the rest were all very quiet on the pitch. The Suns were even given an extra man when Kandji came in off the bench and could not take advantage.
___________________________________________________________________
NEW YORK 3 BURUD TOWN 0
The upset of the week. The Greeks got their 3rd win of the season with goals from Lindpere and Larentowicz. Both players had not seen scores in months. Nick Rimando remained the rock that he is and continues to be the best thing that ever happen to the Greeks. The Stags really needed this win and just cannot buy 3 points in the 2nd half of the season. Thanks to the bunched up standings, Burud Town is still in the playoff race. But, sooner or later the club has to break its funk to have any chance at the playoffs because Majors Cup is a lost cause for the Stags now.

MATCH PREVIEW: Game 17

___________________________
GATEWAY UTD vs GOLD COAST
The Saints have won 2 in a row and scored 10 points doing it. The Suns had been unbeaten in 3 games before being shut out last week. All this makes for a great battle since these clubs are seperated by only 2 points in the BSL standings and the Majors Cup. This match has the potential to be a 6 point swing for the winner.
___________________________
ST.LOUIS vs CAPITAL DISTRICT
The Cure are closing in on the Gunners record of 15 wins and 47 points. So the Gunners can do themselves a big favor in preventing the Cure from overtaking the record by winning this match. Ofcourse, the Gunners really need a win to save their season as well. The Club is 0-2-2 in its last 4 league games, but sits only a tiebreaker away from making the playoffs (Currently in 4th place in the BSL standings).
________________________
MONTGOMERY vs UNION SC
What are the odds that this game ends in a tie? Seriously, the Blues are sitting in 2nd place with 4 games to go, but are only ahead of the Monarchs, who sit all the way in 7th place by a measley 6 points. That's right! Only 6 points seperates 2nd place from 7th place in the BSL standings. On the Majors Cup front its Union SC that is doing the chasing now and Montgomery that sits in 2nd place.
_________________________
BURUD TOWN vs NEW YORK
This match may be just what the doctor ordered for the Stags who really need a win to have any chance of playing in the Majors Cup. The BSL standings are much more favorable for Burud Town. The Stags are 1-0-1 against the Greeks including a 5-1 win the last meeting.

GAME 16: 2nd Half Turning Standings Upside Down

BOXSCORES
GATEWAY UTD 5 CD GUNNERS 4
The Saints scored another 5 points for the second game in a row and have gained a precious 6 points in return at the expense of two veteran rivals. This time, Gateway United got two goals early from Stephen Lenhart. The Gunners would respond with an assist from Renteria. With the score 2-1, Gateway United would expand its lead with a clean sheet from Matt Reis. Capital District would counter with a Maldonado goal. Then the Saints got a big surprise when Jeff Cunningham came through with not one, but two goals on the day. Montero would score yet another late goal and add an assist also to make the game close, but it would not be enough. Gateway United is now only 2 points shy of a playoff spot and looks to be getting stronger with each passing game.
_______________________________________
ST.LOUIS 3 GOLD COAST 0
Three matches and three wins for the Cure over the Suns. This match was a one-sided affair with all the scoring coming from St. Louis. Goals from Robbie Findley and Chad Barrett and an assist from Brek Shea. Its the 13th win of the season for the Cure. Thanks to the help of other results around the league and the fact that Gold Coast has a precious 7 wins to its belt, the club still controls 3rd place in the league standings. However, getting shut-out doesn't bold well to holding onto that spot for much longer.
_________________________________________________________________
BURUD TOWN 2 UNION SC 2
A very late assist from Nate Jaqua salvaged a point for Union SC in what appeared to be a sure loss to Burud Town. The Blues would open the scoring early with a goal from LeToux on Thursday before the rest of the clubs offense feel lame for the 2nd game in a row. Burud Town would get a goal from Kei Kamara and an assist from Ryan Smith to take the 2-1 lead. The Blues last hopes rested with its Sounder duo of Zakuani and Jaqua. When Zakuani was subbed out in the 71st minute, all hopes rested with Jaqua. It was looking bleak. The Stags were 5 minutes away from their first win over Union SC, when Jaqua pulled in an assist in the 85th minute.
_________________________________________________________________
MONTGOMERY 6 NEW YORK 1
With all of the recent signing by the Monarchs, its was the club opening day players that contributed to much of the scoreline in a victory over New York. GBS opened the scoring with an assist. The Greeks would equalize off a Alejandro Moreno assist. Then the Champ's took over and assaulted the Greeks. David Ferriera pulled in the next set of points with a goal and assist. Then Kasey Keller racked in an assist of his own to go with his clean sheet. With the game well in hand Alvaro Fernandez capped the night with a beautiful goal giving Montgomery a 6-1 win. The Monarchs are 3-1-2 since the 2nd half of the regualr season started, good for 11 points in both the season and Majors Cup qualifying. Its a big improvement over the 2-7-1 record in the first 10 games.

MATCH PREVIEW: Game 16

___________________________
GATEWAY UTD vs CD GUNNERS
Capital District has owned this series and the schedule won't give Gateway United any breaks in this game either. The Saints will have to forge forward without its Designated Player, Landon Donovan for this game. Still, the club has weapons and might actually get to see Castillo make his debut. Although that is still in question. The Gunners may have the same amount of points as Gold Coast, but the Suns have more wins. So Gunners really need wins and not ties from here on out.
______________________
ST.LOUIS vs GOLD COAST
The Suns are riding high after the clubs come-from-behind victory last week. Now sitting in a playoff position can the club hold on? Playing St. Louis will be a good test since all roads will lead to the St. Louis in the playoffs. As for the Cure, the club has already defeated Gold Coast twice but will have to win this match without the help of Edson Buddle.
_______________________
BURUD TOWN vs UNION SC
The Stags are fading in the second half of the season having only acquired 1 point in Majors Cup qualifying. After starting the year 6-3-1, the club has since gone 0-4-1 in the last 5 games, dropping from 2nd place to 5th place in the standings. The silver lining is Burud Town remains only 2 points from a playoff spot because the rest of the league has not been able to break away. Union SC is one such team. The Blues just can't put together a good run. Good games are followed by bad games and vice versa. Conor Casey is still questionable for this match.
_________________________
MONTGOMERY vs NEW YORK
The BSL champions look like the swagger is back. The Monarchs built a reputation of being the king of the comeback, and resembled that last week. Making the playoffs might be a tall order, but Montgomery has 8 points in Majors Cup qualifying. The Greeks did defeat Montgomery earlier in the season 3-1 for one of the clubs 2 wins this season.

POWER RANKINGS: Week 15

Its the last power rankings of the 2010 season and there is a new #1. Yes, the Cure's 14 week reign is over. The CD Gunners are the league's strongest looking club right now. Why? The Gunners have been scoring points and are now tied with Union SC for 2nd in APG. The club;s record may not show it as Capital District is now sitting in 4th place in the standings, but the Gunners have made some great additions to the roster as of late and some of the clubs existing players are on the verge of being even stronger. For example Juan Pablo Angel was already a scoring threat, but now he's an even bigger threat getting passes from Henry.
-
Dropping to 2nd is the Cure. The club is still probably celebrating winning the Honors Trophy and does not need to worry too much about the power rankings, but St.Louis does appear to have lost a step in recent weeks. Edson Buddle is not busting goals like he was at the start of the season and the clubs scoring averaging has dipped from its amazingly high levels earlier in the year.
-
The last five weeks of the season are sure to be filled with some very competitive games. There are still 2 playoff spots available.
